So, it’s been 1,298 days since I last wrote a film review. 1,298 days since I was at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival for the fifth time in six years. It was also the first year I attended that particular festival as a member of the press pool. It was the third festival I attended in-person as a member of the press pool, the others being South by Southwest and the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival. I was a member of the Minnesota Film Critics Association. Then, one day, I just stopped.
So, why now? Why did I decide to start over with a new site, leaving the one I left behind, and begin again, 1,298 days later. The answer is simple. I love movies. I love the way they make me feel. The way I get excited about hearing about a new release from one of my favorite directors and being at my favorite theater to see it on opening weekend. I miss discussing films with like-minded people in any medium, online or in-person. I miss all of it.
There are many reasons why I left, none of which I will divulge here, but now I feel like it is the right time to start anew. I’m keeping the same Instagram page because I am proud of the work I did there (instagram.com/moviebirb), and tomorrow, I will be posting my first review in three-and-a-half years with The Drama.
So, until then…thank you…
I’m Back…
